ABC Kid Genius Help Page and System Requirements.    ABC Kid Genius software Minimum system requirements  PC Pentium 166  with 128mb memory, sound card, screen  ABC Kid Genius is designed to work with screen resolution set at 800*600 or higher  ABC Kid Genius will NOT work with screen resolution set at 640 * 480  Microsoft Windows 98, 2000,2003, Me,NT,XP, Vista, Microsoft VB6 runtime files, Windows Media Player.  ABC Kid Genius Start software requires 47mb free hard disk space.  Kid Genius Software License Agreement          TROUBLE SHOOTING  ABC Kid Genius requires Microsoft visual basic 6 runtime files and Windows Media Player.    Most systems already have these files installed   If you get any error messages or something does not work when you start ABC Kid Genius   Download Microsoft's  vbrun60sp5.exe  This installs vb6 runtime files required by the software.  After downloading click on vbrun60sp5.exe to install the missing files. Try ABC Kid Genius again  If you still get an error, download and install Windows Media Player suitable for your computer  from Microsoft.  ABC Kid Genius requires your computer to have a drive C:/   All files are installed on drive c:  If ABC Kid Genius works, but when you press a keyboard letter, the letter does not appear on the screen,   press the CapsLock Key on your keyboard once, before trying to type letters again.  DOWNLOADING AND STARTING  All ABC Kid Genius downloads are self extracting files.  Begin by downloading  the main program 1kidgen.exe from downloads page to a temporary directory  To install  Click on 1kidgen.exe and follow instructions on screen..  To start ABC Kid Genius in Windows . Close all other window applications and return to Windows Desktop  Click on ABC Kid Genius Desktop Icon  or  Click on Start & Programs & ABC Kid Genius & ABC Kid Genius  or   Windows explorer - click on Start & Programs & Windows explorer & Kgdemo &  Kidgen.exe  To Uninstall ABC Kid Genius use the 'add/remove Programs' in the windows control panel  or Delete the c:\kgdemo directory   OPERATING:  ABC Kid Genius uses the MOUSE or KEYBOARD in most areas. To Move from menu to menu press or       click the highlighted LETTERS or  FEATURE LETTERS in yellow boxes. Press or click Q to quit on any   menu or Esc key when required .  To quit  ABC Kid Genius press or click Q from the main screen.  Levels -   Levels, allows you to spell by ability. 3 is the easiest, up to 10 the hardest.   To try the levels feature in spelling, you require more words. Download the 30 free words and install.  You can choose a level to spell. From Level ALL to Level 10.  Level ALL displays all available words.   Level 3 displays words which are 2 to 3 letters long.  Level 4 displays words which are 4 letters long. the same applies for 5, 6, 7, 8, 9   Level 10 displays words which are 10 to 12 letters long.                     Video - Choose to view video after spelling a word or not.  Upper Case - Choose Upper case or Lower Case. (Lower Case is only available to registered members.)   ON - This On-Off button (next to upper case button in the spelling section) will switch the   little friend encouragement comment off or on, the little friend comment is played when the   spelling of a word is correct and a video clip starts.   Auto - Automatically spells each word by itself.  Sorting - in the spelling section, the 'CHOOSE word ' button will show you all the words that currently exist  on your computer you can double click on a word to start spelling from that word. You will also see options   to sort the words in the order of your choice, alphabetically, by length or mixed.   When you use the Sorting, the list is changed to the order you choose.  The order that you choose, is the order in which the words will be displayed in both Spelling and   Flash Words sections of the ABC Kid Genius Software.  CREATE WORDS FEATURE Create your own Spelling words to use with ABC Kid Genius Spelling and Flash Words.  Create words using your own pictures, your voice and your video clips. Non ABC Kid Genius Members can create only 6 words for free. Requirements to create your own words. PICTURES Digital Pictures - your pictures saved to be 320x240 pixels in size and in a JPG, GIF or BMP image formats.  (eg. happy.jpg or flower.gif or girl.bmp) Sound Recording of Word. A microphone (mic) input on your computer.  A microphone so you can Record yourself saying the word.  Recording must be saved in WAV sound file format. (eg. happy.wav or flower.wav)  Windows has a Sound Recorder. It is normally located in start menu / programs / accessories. VIDEO for WORD The video should be saved in a 320x240 size in AVI or MPG video format which is suitable for your Windows Media Player. (eg. happy.avi or flower.mpg) To save space on your computer we recommend you use no more than 10 seconds of video clip for each word.  When a word is created your original files are NOT moved or deleted from their original source. New files are created in the ABC Kid Genius directory for each word you create. Always Make sure you have enough free hard disk space before creating words.  Words can be deleted in the spelling area of the ABC Kid Genius software. There are 5 stages to create a word. 1) Choose Database 2) Add picture 3) Add sound of word (4) Add video for word. (5) type in word. Follow instruction on the screen for each of the 5 stages and add files as required for the word. ABC Kid Genius supplies only 1 template to practice creating your own words. In stage 5 you will be required to enter the spelling of the word. Each word you enter can be 2 to 12 letters long with no spaces in the middle. Type in the word required in the box and click on Create button or Retype button if you  have made a mistake.  2 boxes will pop up to confirm creation YES and NO click on yes to create. The word is created  and the screen changes to a menu. Go to Spelling to test the word. You can create 6 words for free. To Create more words please purchase Membership.  When Creating words always use your own pictures, your own voice and your own videos. Words created should be for your own personal use and should not be distributed. It is an offence to use any media without the authority of the copyright holders.  MEMBERSHIP:  Join our membership to access over 1000 words for ABC Kid Genius spelling and Flash Words.  membership also unlocks the Lower Case feature and the Create Words Feature. Access to the Membership area requires your browser to have Javascript and Session Cookies turned on. FREE WORDS and FREE STORY:  AFTER ABC Kid Genius is installed and working, you can download more words and more story pages for   free. Click on 30 free Words or 20 free Story Pages , download words or pages to a temporary directory.  Click on the downloaded exe file to install.   New words are automatically added to ABC Kid Genius Spelling   and Flash Words areas.  New story pages must be downloaded and installed in page order.  the page is  automatically added to the story reading area.  To set ABC Kid Genius to US or UK English. Go to Help page and click on required button.  Each FREE story page you download and install requires up to 1mb of space on your hard disk  Each FREE word you download and install requires from 1mb up to 5mb of space on your hard disk
